The chamber board concludes: Unsafe working situations caused by Arib

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Khadija Arib, is guilty of creating a socially unsafe work environment. It was written by the Presidium, the steering committee of the House of Representatives led by Chamber President Vera Bergkamp.

The Presidium draws this conclusion from the summary of the Hoffmann Agency’s investigation report. The research report itself will remain confidential. The researchers themselves are not talking about an unsafe work environment. They describe various events.

Anonymous complaints were received about Arib. Several officials complained about the unsafe work environment under his leadership. Hoffmann spoke with those officers and others involved.

nineteen people

Hoffmann spoke to nineteen people in total. From the interviews, researchers conclude that Arib structurally interfered with the official organization. For ten people, he spoke directly to them and sometimes raised his voice. Nine people said they suffered emotionally as a result. Investigators write that Arib did not respond or apologize.

Investigators also conclude that not all complaints about Arib are true. No officers were dismissed following Arib’s false accusations. No officers were singled out for their actions. Arib said that someone who leaves is not working.

Fifteen of the nineteen people also have a positive opinion of Arib. “Although technically beyond the scope of the substantive investigation, it is worth noting that fifteen interviewees reported finding the former president to be a very competent, at times attentive, and engaging Speaker of the House of Representatives,” the researchers write.

legal process

The result was published against Arib’s wishes. Arib began legal proceedings in August to challenge the validity of the research. The case will be heard in November. He believes they should expect it.

Arib wrote an angry letter to parliament last week. “It is the duty of the House of Representatives to put an end to this case and prevent the publication and public disclosure of an unlawful report on the unlawful investigation before the judge makes his decision.”

Arib received support in the House of Representatives from PvdA-GroenLinks, SP, Party for the Animals, BBB and member Omtzigt. They believe the Presidency is obstructing justice by publishing this.

The executive committee of the House of Representatives continued the broadcast because it was “in the interest of all concerned.”

Khadija Arib served in the PvdA in the House of Representatives for 24 years and was president from 2016 to 2021. At the end of September last year, it became known that he was under investigation.
