In the Tuesday, October 31st episode of the talk show, research carried out by the Instituto Demopolis a year after the trust gained in Parliament. 40% of Italians support the work of Giorgia Meloni’s government in its first 12 months of life. Contrary to this is the assessment of almost one in two citizens who do not give the Executive an approval rating. However, 12% do not express their opinion.
The survey, carried out for Otto and Mezzo and reported in the regular Punto by Paolo Pagliaro, highlights an extreme political polarization in public opinion. Today, 93% of those voting for the Brothers of Italy, 72% of Lega voters and 68% of Forza Italia supporters expressed a positive vote in the first year of government. The scenario changes drastically among those who vote for opposition parties: only 5% of PD voters and 4% of those who vote for the M5S promote the executive. Italians’ assessments become more favorable if they are asked to express an opinion about the prime minister. 46% promote Giorgia Meloni’s first year at Palazzo Chigi, which obtains a positive evaluation 6 points higher than the 40% of citizens who promote the government.
Demopolis also verified public opinion’s perception of the role played in Parliament, in these 12 months, by political forces that do not support the government: 73% believes that the action of the parties opposition has been revealed so far ineffective. Which party, in the opinion of voters, played the role of opposition to the Meloni government most effectively? 12% mention the 5 Star Movement, 8% for PD by Elly Schein, 3% Action-Italia Viva, 2% Left and Greens. 75%, 3 in 4 Italians, say that no party has really managed to make an impact in opposition to the center-right government.
Finally, the Institute led by Pietro Vento analyzed citizens’ opinions on some crucial areas of the Meloni Government’s activity in this first year. The absolute majority promotes Giorgia Meloni’s choices in relations with the European Union and in foreign policy; 44% express a positive vote on tax policies. Italians, interviewed by Demopolis, become much more critical when asked to assess the government’s ability to combat inflation and the rising cost of living. A quarter of those interviewed promote the government in the area of health, 20% of Italians evaluate positively the choices made in recent months regarding immigration.
