Silvio Berlusconi’s name was inscribed in the Famedio, the ‘pantheon’ of illustrious Milanese, in the Monumental Cemetery of Milan. The approval of the registration of the name of the founder of Forza Italia and former Prime Minister came from the consultative committee of the Milan City Council for the tributes in Famedio on October 4th, along with the names of 13 other illustrious Milanese. Silvio Berlusconi was “one of the protagonists of the country’s industrial, political and sporting life”, said the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, remembering the former prime minister during the ceremony, which, on behalf of Berlusconi, was attended by , among others, his brother Paolo, the only member of the Cav family present, his long-time friends, including the president of Mediaset, Fedele Confalonieri, Marcello Dell’Utri, the Azzurri Alessandro Cattaneo, Licia Ronzulli, Alessandro De Chirico, Adriano Galliani, Gianluca Comazzi and Júlio Gallera.
«By registering with Famedio – highlights the Commission in the reasons for registering with Famedio – our city gives credit to the boy from the island, to the businessman who created tens of thousands of jobs, to the political leader and to the indelible mark left by his visionary talent and for his overflowing personality, appreciated and criticized, but undoubtedly crucial in the recent history of Milan and Italy”. At the end of the ceremony, a minute of silence was observed in front of the tombstones of the new members.
In addition to Berlusconi, Marcello Abbado, musician and former director of the Milan Conservatory, Manlio Armellini, historical director of the Salone del Mobile, Cesare, Alessandro and Natale Balbiani, from the historic company of organ builders, the oldest in Italy, participated. Also present are the names of women such as Gaetanina Calvi, the first Italian to graduate in civil engineering from the Milan Polytechnic in 1913, and Rosina Ferrario, the first Italian female aviator. And again, Gisella Floreanini, music teacher, party member and politician, the first woman minister in Italy, the fashion designer Marta Marzotto, the former undersecretary Ombretta Carulli Fumagalli, the first woman in Italy to occupy the university chair of canon law in Cattolica, supporter Francesca Laura Wronowski. Also registered are jazz guitarist Franco Cerri, artist Alberto Garutti, editor Achille Mauri and goldsmith and sculptor Alfredo Ravasco.
