Mattarella: the Armed Forces guarantee Italy’s vocation to live in peace

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, arrived at Piazza Venezia, in Rome, for the ceremony at the Altare della Patria. The head of state was received by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, and then greeted the presidents of the Chambers, Ignazio La Russa (Senate) and Lorenzo Fontana (House), the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the Constitutional Court, Silvana Sciarra. “The Italian Army, Navy, Air Force, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza support the protection of our free institutions and Italy’s vocation to live in peace, offering a response of harmony and reliability in defending the rights of each citizen “: this is an excerpt from the message sent by Sergio Mattarella to the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, on the occasion of National Unity Day and Armed Forces Day.

“It is a feeling that is expressed and multiplied with the valuable contribution that the Armed Forces make to the missions of the United Nations, the European Union and NATO, providing, upon mandate from Parliament and the Government, the competence and dedication of the Italian Military” , continued the President of the Republic. “The international context – added Mattarella – in which the Republic carries out its action makes its contribution more precious than ever. The basis of the commitment of members of the Armed Forces is the oath taken to the flag, the Republic and the principles of the Constitution, to comply with discipline and to honor the public functions entrusted to each one. Soldiers, sailors, airmen, carabinieri, financiers and civil defense personnel, your daily work is essential to the safe and peaceful future of our community and the wider international community. The Republic is grateful to you”, he concluded.
