“It is a bit paradoxical that a government led by a respectable member of the European Socialist Party, a pragmatic socialist unlike Schlein, is accused of allegedly violating human rights when we are involved in a process of Albania’s accession to the EU.” This was stated by the MEP and head of the Fratelli d’Italia delegation in the European Parliament, Carlo Fidanza, at a press point at the end of the European Chamber plenary, responding to a question about the request of the leader of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, to expel of the European Socialist Party, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and his party PSSH.
«It is not clear how one can simultaneously support the accession of Albania, led by Rama, and we agree with that and even the socialists support this line, and at the same time the prime minister who leads Albania towards EU membership must be expelled from PES – highlighted Fidanza – I think they should make peace with their brains and reach an agreement among themselves. Rama obviously does not belong to our political family and has ideas opposite to ours on many issues, he is a friend of Italy, he is a pragmatic socialist, he has made himself available to a friendly country – we are two friendly countries – to help us solve a problem that is that of excessive pressure on territories that receive flows of irregular migrants. This is what the Albanian government has done and will do in full collaboration with the Italian government and in full compliance with European laws and international conventions”, concluded Fidanza.
