The government assumes that fewer refugees will arrive in the Netherlands this year than previously expected. There are new estimates and according to the “maximum” scenario, this number is around 68 thousand refugees. There were 76,000 in April.
The figures are included in a report submitted to NOS called the Multi-Year Production Forecast (MPP). Outgoing Minister of State for Asylum Affairs Van der Maat will present the figures to the Council of Ministers tomorrow.
The government expects a number between 45,000 (lowest estimate) and 60,000 (medium estimate) for 2023. This is certainly more than was predicted exactly a year ago; There were 50,650 refugees, excluding Ukrainians.
The document also states that asylum reception centers are still overcrowded. There are around 60,000 accommodations, but around 16,000 are actually occupied by status holders who need to move to another apartment. “The number of refugees remains high and migration and emigration remain below what is necessary,” says the MPP.
