Former senator Nino Strano, who ate mortadella in the Parliament after Prodi’s fall, died

Former senator Nino Strano has passed away. He had been ill for a while, he was 73 years old. Nino Strano, a twisted militant of the Catanian right in both the MSI and the National Alliance, was also a regional councilor. In the seventies, he was the director of Giovane Italia in Catania, and then of the Fuan and Youth Front. In 1976 he was elected alderman of the municipality of Catania according to the lists of the Italian Social Movement and was always reconfirmed until 1993.

In 1994 he became a member of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, taking over from Benito Paolone, and returned to the MSI, becoming a member of the 3rd permanent legislative commission, Productive Activities and Agriculture. He was re-elected for the National Alliance in the Catania constituency in 1996. He was appointed as a regional council member responsible for Tourism, Communications and Transport in centre-right governments (1996-1998).
He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2001 according to the AN list. He was elected to the Senate of the Republic in 2006, and the scene in which he eats mortadella to celebrate the fall of the Prodi government, which was defeated in the Senate on January 24, 2008, has remained famous.
