Schlein and Conte serving Landini in Parliament

The connection continues between CGIL secretary Maurizio Landini and the two “almost allies” Elly Schlein and Giuseppe Conte. «Schlein and Conte, with whom we met, as well as other parties, have explicitly told us that they intend in Parliament to support the proposed changes to the financial law that we support» said the number one of the Corso Italia union. Thus, the Pd and the M5S could support the CGIL countermeasure, the 87 billion euros, deposited in the Senate. Afterwards, those who asked him if he regretted that Schlein and Conte had not participated in the demonstration on November 17th, he replied “not at all, especially because they both sent large delegations of parliamentarians and leaders from the Democratic Party and M5S who participated in our protest to express the solidarity of the parties”.

Landini also wanted to respond to those who accuse him of wanting to get involved in politics. «This little story that is told (that Landini could become the leader of the left) is a way of not taking into account the proposals that, like the unions (CGIL and UIL in this case) are making, said the CGIL secretary – It’s a way of talking about something else. We called the strike because we propose true tax reform. When they attack us for wanting to do politics, they intend to belittle our proposals. The union has always been involved in politics, because it is not limited to protecting conditions in the workplace, it wants to guarantee the rights of workers as citizens outside the workplace.” But the secretary does not limit himself to talking about the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement and the economic maneuver, but also wanted to intervene in the latest reported case: the murder of Giulia Cecchettin at the hands of her boyfriend. «We have 103 women killed this year, we are facing a massacre» and so «I wonder what forms of mobilization can be implemented to resolve this issue, how can I avoid it? What do men do? Because it is men who commit violence, a cultural change is necessary,” said Landini and then added: “It could be men, who not only go on strike, but allocate part of their salaries to support anti-violence centers, to carry out away from prevention, towards culture. I feel the need to open this discussion.”

In short, the CGIL leader may not want to get involved in politics, but in reality he does and does so even outside of strictly union issues. And it is no coincidence that he once again attacks the government which, in his opinion, does not listen enough. «This government has a majority in Parliament and we are not there, there is no one who can change it: the voters voted and we have to deal with this situation, but that does not mean that they should not discuss with anyone and cancel union representation”, he stressed. “We are asking to change the country’s economic and social policy, because this is leading the country to bankruptcy”, he continued.
