From today, political parties will primarily focus on forming a coalition government. They were invited by Chamber President Vera Bergkamp at 10.30. It is certain that there will be opposition for some.
A scout is assigned at this meeting. At the request of the PVV and with the consent of other parties, it will be examined what coalitions are possible and what the first meetings with the group leaders should be about. The combination of PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB is currently the most prominent.
The Council of Ministers meeting of the outgoing cabinet starts at the same time. Dilan Yeşilgöz (VVD) and Rob Jetten (D66) will join later because, as former party leaders, they must first attend Bergkamp’s meetings.
Election results are also discussed in the Council of Ministers. This is not just about all government parties being massively diminished by voters. It should also be discussed how the formation of a new cabinet will work and what tasks the “old” cabinet has in front of it.
The cabinet is being formed for the first time with new but above all clearer agreements of the House of Representatives. The formation consists of three separate phases: the exploratory phase (starting today), the briefing phase (actual negotiations) and the formation phase (calling ministers and secretaries of state). Each phase will be publicly disclosed and completed with a report.
In the second stage, informants are appointed at a certain point to meet with parties who can reach an agreement. Parliament said it wanted to slow things down a bit.
At the very end of the process, that is, in the third stage, public discussions or sessions will be held with the ministerial candidates. At least if the coalition parties agree on this issue. For example, PVV is for it, VVD is against it.
