In recent months, three parties have emerged, or rather, a party, a movement and an association: Roberto Castelli’s «Popular Party of the North», Gianni Alemanno’s «Indipendenza» movement and Alessandro Di Battista’s «Schierarsi» association. Because when everything seems lost, someone always appears to found a party. And if there is a fear that the word party is too inflated, then they call it a movement or, better yet, a cultural area. In a country where political passion is at an all-time low, there are still those who believe in it and are personally involved in the creation of a new formation. Obviously everyone does this for the good of the country, to give a voice to those who don’t have one and because other politicians in the area don’t understand anything. The curious thing is that those who get involved in this adventure are almost never willing to act as a wingman or simply bring their contribution to a party that already exists, unless it is easily scalable, everyone wants to be the protagonist of a new story. But let’s go in order. Three days ago, at the Hotel Midas in Rome, Gianni Alemanno presented the logo of his new “Independence” movement. A heterogeneous grouping that brings together two axes An, Fabio Granata, Massimo Arlechino and Marcello Tagliatela, the former Casapound Simone Di Stefano, but also the former communists Marco Rizzo and Francesco Toscano, from the group «Sovereign and Popular Democracy», as well as Cateno De Luca, mayor of Taormina and creator, in turn, of the “South with North” party, and the former member of the Venetian League of the North, Vito Comencini. A mixture maintained by the pro-Palestinian position and the negative judgment towards the majority and the opposition. «Meloni and Schlein say the same things about war and the economy, then they argue about stupid things» declared Alemanno. Rizzo goes further and explains the objective of the program: “we want an independent Italy that is not part of NATO and the EU, that is not under the dictatorship of the euro”. Even tougher is Comencini who, speaking of Meloni, defined her as “Biden’s poodle”.
Two days ago, in Naples, Alessandro Di Battista participated in a new event for the newly formed association. The name? “Take sides.” The former grillino, however, made a point of clarifying that he will not compete in the European Championship. After being left out at the precise moment when the Grillinis occupied the highest positions in Parliament and Government, Dibba attempted a revitalization operation to re-propose the themes of the first Movement. It is no coincidence that the symbol is five stylized men, like the now famous five stars. «All social positions are free», explained treasurer Danilo Puliani. Di Battista will be vice-president because the new formation will be chaired by Luca Di Giuseppe, who also has experience in the Grillo and Casaleggio Movement despite his young age (26 years old). Here too, one of the themes that serves as a glue is the condemnation of the State of Israel, but in the program there are also battles for water and public health, an unspecified popular ecology and a critique of the free market, all teaching a post-ideological populism that rejects old categories and old symbols.
Lastly, but only in chronological order: the Popular Party of the North, presented yesterday by the former minister of the Northern League, Roberto Castelli, in Milan. A formation of “free women and men from the lands of the North who recognize themselves in the values of freedom , autonomy and democracy; in the values of the Judeo-Christian tradition, in defense of people who grow and work to allow future generations a free life worth living; in the values of solidarity, attention to the fragile and those most in need”. A party that would like to rescue the historic battles of the League which, according to Castelli, with Matteo Salvini took a “southern” direction. Although the concept of the north of Castelli’s new formation is very broad, as it includes the Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige/Sudtirol, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, but also Liguria, Emilia Romagna and Marche. Obviously the battle is for autonomy and it is no coincidence that the former minister’s first impulse is for Calderoli and for a reform that “will not take us far”. There is no longer a lack of parties on the political scene, now we just need to wait for the voters.
