Most parties in the new House of Representatives have no objection to the appointment of Ronald Plasterk as a scout. In consultations with parliamentary group leaders, only the Denk and Animal Welfare Party opposed his appointment.
According to Chamber President Bergkamp, who led the consultation, there is “broad support” for Plasterk. He also stated that he wanted to undertake this task. Bergkamp is confident that he will complete his mission successfully.
Bergkamp on Plasterk’s appointment:
PvdA member Plasterk will now evaluate what opportunities the parties see for cooperation in the new cabinet. His name was leaked yesterday. He is the successor of PVV senator Gom van Strien, who resigned yesterday after it emerged he may have been involved in fraud.
“Someone from another party, I thought it was a good idea,” PVV leader Wilders said of his election as former education and interior minister. According to him, Plasterk is “a creative mind who will succeed”.
right cabinet
Various faction leaders will visit Plasterk in the near future to clarify their positions and efforts. In his last column for De Telegraaf, Plasterk wrote that he believed the formation did not need to take long and that a right-wing cabinet consisting of PVV, VVD, NSC and BBB was obvious.
After the consultation, VVD parliamentary group leader Yeşilgöz reiterated that he did not want to be part of such a coalition, but wanted to make it possible through some kind of tolerant support. This position is sensitive within his own party, as many Liberals believe he should join a cabinet with the PVV.
Regarding this difference of opinion, Yeşilgöz said, “We are the party of the people, there are always different opinions.” Due to the loss of ten seats, he does not see room for VVD in the cabinet, “but we want to make a difference in terms of content and we are using this opportunity with both hands. “We assume our responsibility, but from a different role.”
Refuses to match
Plasterk was now received by Chamber President Bergkamp to receive his order. He has until next Tuesday to make his decision.
In any case, he doesn’t have to talk to a group leader: Denk’s boss Stephan van Baarle refuses to visit him. He sees Plasterk as the luminary of the PVV and thus the “ambassador of the far right”. Denk does not want to participate on the grounds that “the initiative is in the hands of a far-right political movement that wants to deprive the rights of more than a million Dutch Muslims.”
