Whoever sows wind will reap storm. The Democratic Party (in name, but rarely in fact) did not like the League’s choice to organize the demonstration to start the electoral campaign for the European elections in Florence next Sunday. And so mayor Dario Nardella and the coordinator of the Tuscan secretariat Andrea Giorgio publicly invoked the square, to demonstrate their bitterness towards the “black construction site” represented (in the words of the Dem representatives) by Marie Le Pen, Alice Weidel and Geert Selvagens. The CPA, the social center illegally occupied for twenty years, which courageously displays Tito’s Yugoslav flag every February 10th, in contempt for the Foibe martyrs, responded to the Democratic Party’s call.
«Fascism is an authoritarian system that rushes to war, maximizing the exploitation of the popular classes, limiting their strike actions and manifestations of dissent through repression – we read in a statement from Firenze Antifascista -. We believe that the congress promoted by Salvini is an expression of this reactionary tendency. The objective is to unmask the populist propaganda of the so-called sovereignists. For him, rapes are not a problem, as they are an expression of the abuses of a patriarchal society, but they depend on who commits them: if a rape serves to fan the flames of racism, it relaunches chemical castration, if instead the rapist is a white man from a good family, he ends up having guarantees of “ifs” and “buts”. Just like and worse than the smugglers, he legalizes the trafficking of immigrants to the new open-air prison in Albania. They do business and we don’t pay the bills. Now is the time to say the limit is full.”
In the city, tension can be cut with a knife and the fear of possible fights (in addition to the inevitable traffic disruptions) is real. «Democracy in alternating phases: good and welcoming towards those who think like them, intolerant and resentful towards those who do not have the same vision – said Matteo Salvini – We will respond, together with all European allies, with the strength of smiles and a concrete project for a Europe finally different and free.” The leader of the Carroccio group at Palazzo Vecchio, Federico Bussolin, also spoke about the topic. «Does the municipality allow violent invaders to hold rallies without taking any political distance? Could this be the Florence that the Democratic Party wants and imagines for the future? I hope the mayor immediately distances himself from certain violent characters.”
