Andrea Delmastro will appear in court. Rome judge Maddalena Cipriani ordered the indictment of the undersecretary of justice, who is being investigated by the Rome prosecutor’s office for revealing official secrets in the case of anarchist Cospito. Delmastro was present in the courtroom in Piazzale Clodio at the preliminary hearing today. The trial will begin on March 12.
Delmastro’s defender, lawyer Giuseppe Valentino, commented: “We were sure that we would make a different decision because all the conditions were present for the decision that there was no room to continue.”
The file was opened following a complaint by MP Angelo Bonelli regarding the statements made by Copasir’s vice president, Giovanni Donzelli, in Parliament on January 31 regarding the Cospito case. On this occasion, Donzelli published the contents of a report of the Department of Penitentiary Administration (Dap) on the prison speeches of anarchist Alfredo Cospito. Documents taken from his roommate and party comrade, Delmastro, as Donzelli himself stated.
Last July, the investigative judge, Emanuela Attura, did not accept the request of the prosecutors, who demanded to be dismissed, considering the objective existence of the violation, and ordered the preparation of an indictment against the undersecretary by force, but found that there was no evidence of the subjective element or that Delmastro was aware of the existence of the secret.
At this morning’s preliminary hearing, the Rome prosecutor’s office requested that the undersecretary not continue the hearing. However, this request was not accepted by the judge. Just like the request for a civil lawsuit made by four PD MPs was not accepted.
