Crosetto: my mystified words. Then the blow to the left that leaves the classroom

It’s Guido Crosetto’s day against everyone. Feverish, the Minister of Defense appeared in the Chamber to answer the question posed by the leader of +Europa, Benedetto Della Vedova, following his interview with Il Corriere della Sera in which he spoke of the judicial opposition to the executive. “I am deeply impressed by the attempt to mystify my words – began Crosetto – I did not say that they tell me about secret meetings, about conspiracies. I have read some public interventions that I consider very serious on the issue of justice.” Minister who also addresses doubts: “Someone said that I said these things because I fear investigations. No, I am Guido Crosetto, I am 60 years old and in 60 years I have never been touched by nothing. Do you think I brought this up because I’m scared? No, you’re welcome.”

His confidence in togas is “total – but the minister says – I know how to discern” and in particular refers to some public interventions “in which someone spoke of a judicial power that must have ‘an anti-majoritarian physiological function to protect rights’ ”. Crosetto, who calls himself the opening of an issue that sooner or later Parliament, according to him, will have to discuss: “this clash between politics and the judiciary will have to end – he says and still emphasizes – I found some who see the government as an attack on the Judiciary, almost as if it didn’t want to make it work. There are those who say that the role of the Judiciary should be to rebalance the popular will.”

Then, a harsh attack: “But whoever has the responsibility must be the third party: think if this sentence had been uttered by a general or a mayor”, emphasizes the minister. In the Chamber while Crosetto speaks, the turnout is not that of the great occasions and the minister highlights at the end of his speech: “I thank Schlein and Conte for their presence. They demonstrated that their attention was real, I regret that so many of those who in recent days said the matter was serious were not present this morning.”

The minister’s words to which Chiara Braga, leader of the Democratic Party group, immediately responded: “All opposition groups asked for information about the minister’s serious statements about the judiciary. We reiterate the request for information so that we can discuss such a serious matter with complete transparency.” The minister’s response was not long in coming. Amazed by the intervention of the group’s leader, he states: “I expected everything except for someone to challenge a minister who answered a question. From the day after the interview I indicated my desire to report to Copasir, to Anti-Mafia, to the Chamber. I even responded feverishly with a fever of 39 degrees out of respect for Parliament.”
