In the context of the first debate on the draft law on education in the Senate Committee, the Minister of the Field, Aurora Vergara, said this Tuesday that the results of the OECD PISA tests demonstrate the need to revise the controversial project of statutory education law .
“We are in a historic and unprecedented moment for the country. Now that the results of the PISA tests are out, Colombian girls and boys say we need better opportunities and a high-quality and relevant education system. “I invite Congress to find the mechanism to build a national agreement on education to ensure that the rights of boys, girls, youth and multiple peoples can be included in the education system,” the official said.
He added that given the results of the 2022 tests, the country must strengthen its investments in the sector and implement significant reforms that will improve quality from an equality perspective.
“For this reason, we have proposed a draft law that aims to regulate the fundamental right to education at all levels, extend initial and pre-school education from the first months of life to six years, increase coverage, focusing on the areas with the greatest delays, promote expanded training and longer hours, including arts, sports, coding, bilingualism, science and innovation,” he indicated.
And he added that the project also aims to integrate citizenship and social-emotional training in schools that provide values and enable them to build human relationships, compulsory secondary education and immediate transit programs that facilitate access to higher education to improve educational pathways to ensure. , improve educational infrastructure, giving priority to rural areas, to contribute to closing the gaps, strengthen teacher training to help them improve their pedagogical practices and promote rural education relevant to the area.
