CISL relaunches the idea of a new and modern social pact to unite the country in structural objectives that can no longer be postponed. An agreement between institutions, unions and companies to resolve issues in the system that harm the quality and quantity of employment, increases in wages and pensions, job security, training and active policies, new strategies and labor relations, investments and productivity. One line, the one dictated by general secretary Luigi Sbarra at the opening of the confederation’s organizational assembly, which must deal with the increasingly accentuated diversity of points of view of the CGIL and the UIL. For Sbarra, however, the agreement “can no longer wait. This is the challenge – he said – this is the vision if we want to help this country recover from the pandemic emergency, inflation and the strong impact of two wars. together, work together. And the path is through a great pact with those who are there.”
With Maurizio Landini and Pierpaolo Bombardieri “I’m sorry, but there are different assessments”. Starting with the budget, but also with the minimum wage. “It is not the first time that in this country there have been articulated positions – he recalled – it happened in 1984 with the Valentine’s Day agreement. There were very articulate discussions in the early 1990s with the large concertation agreements. union model that this country needs to support the transition and stay within the change”.
CISL, therefore, continues to believe that “the path of dialogue and discussion, which does not exclude conflict when necessary, is the one to be practiced for the common good. In my opinion, the union leader cannot sell dreams, but must deal with reality and in the difficult reality of this season, build results and achievements for the people he represents.”
Sbarra reiterated “the categorical refusal to submit to a supposed hegemony of union areas oriented towards the movement or of parties that seek support and transmission belts”, also because CISL is a union that “does not speak among itself – he stressed – does not take refuge yourself in any ideological, political or even organizational comfort zone. Instead, challenge yourself with the courage and ambition of someone who wants to be there to change.”
The union leader spoke to an entirely internal audience, without external guests, neither politicians nor unionists. He announced that the doctors’ federation CISL will take to the streets “with a strike on December 18th together with other acronyms” to commit the Government to improving the health chapter of the budget law. And after statements by the Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, he warned us not to question the right to strike, even though “we have never shied away from the discussion” about strikes in local public transport. “We are open to any prospect of improvement, of strengthening legislation”, he added, which in Italy is “quite clear”. Meanwhile, CISL continues to grow. In the 2020-2022 three-year period, 4 million members were exceeded (+49 thousand active). There was also an increase in Inas practices and Caf’s fiscal activity, which this year exceeded the ceiling of 2,500,000 730 models. The organizational meeting will close tomorrow with Sbarra’s conclusions.
