The interview with Foti (FdI): “This is how we will get out of the bonus construction chaos”

Fifteen months of concrete and evident results. From a consensus that is constantly growing. Despite two wars, inflation and an opposition capable only of shouting about the fascist danger. Tommaso Foti, group leader in the FdI Chamber, takes stock of what has been achieved and the important challenges of the immediate future.

We are beginning to see the first results of the Government’s action in combating immigration. Was the right path taken?

«The latest data from Frontex, on the one hand, refutes the predictions of many owls, who, in order to go against the Meloni government, went to the point of rooting against Italy, on the other, they confirm that the agreement with Tunis is working. Interaction on equal terms with countries of migratory transit is proving to be effective. It was Frontex itself that found that, since there was greater dialogue with Tunisia, the number of monthly detections has decreased by 24%”.

Is it correct to say that the ESM will be discussed as part of a review of the Stability Pact?

«The discussion about the MEE takes on a purely ideological aspect and highlights the instrumentality of certain positions. Firstly, that of Secretary Schlein. The Democratic Party could have ratified it when it was in government but, as with the minimum wage, it did not. Responsibility for the final decision lies with Parliament and, although the parties that constitute the majority have different sensitivities in this regard, there is consistency in the fact that it should be approached as a package measure. The Safeguards Mechanism cannot be considered without taking into account the Stability Pact. Voting for the MEE without having an idea of what the new Stability Pact will be like would be a reckless attitude.”

Security, citizens ask for greater controls. What can be done to meet these needs?

«The Meloni government allocated one and a half billion euros for contract renewals for uniformed personnel. The project also contains an important repression – with a relative increase in penalties – for crimes that involve defrauding the elderly, attacking police officers and illegally occupying other people’s property, and a new type of crime is foreseen for those who participate in and organize riots in prisons. Of particular importance is the Caivano Decree-Law for the fight against crime, deviance and school dropout among young people.”

How can we get out of the Superbonus case, avoiding giving more public money, but at the same time protecting citizens and companies that believed in the good faith of the Grillina initiative?

«The damage caused by the 110%, which is the responsibility of the 5 Star Movement, has a strong impact on public finances, compromising the margins for the activation of an expansionist policy. To ensure that this catastrophe is not paid for by companies or citizens, an FdI proposal on the Superbonus is being studied to modify the progress status of extraordinary works, to cover with the bonus all works carried out in 2023, including the the last two months of the year. Let’s immediately remove the doubts: a proposal that does not provide for any extension of the measure and is not onerous.”

Employment numbers have improved significantly. Is it all thanks to the abolition of citizenship income?

«The Government is working without missing a beat, we have stopped throwing money out the window with useless subsidies, wheelchairs and citizens’ income. We start working helping families, workers and companies, which are the three pillars of our nation. The latest Istat data confirms that employment in Italy has reached record levels. It is a consequence of the Meloni Government’s economic and industrial policy choices, which were also achieved at a time of stagnation in the European economy. We await with calm confidence that the opposition, instead of continuing to root against the nation, joins us in the joy of these data that mark Italy’s restart.”
