The Albanian High Court suspended the agreement between Italy and Albania on the creation of two centers for migrants that will be managed on the other side of the Adriatic by our country. The Prime Minister, the socialist Edi Rama, who signed the agreement with Giorgia Meloni, had planned to vote on the agreement in the Assembly today. At this point, parliamentarians will have to wait a little longer, because the supreme judges have up to three months to make a decision.
The agreement with Italy provides for the opening of two CPRs in which migrants bound for Italy will have to stay temporarily (maximum thirty days) waiting to find out whether they will enjoy the right to asylum or whether they will be repatriated. One of the two appeals to Alta was presented by the Democratic Party, which despite its name is not left-wing, but center-right. The other, however, was moved by another 28 opposition deputies. The PD parliamentary group called for a declaration of incompatibility with the Constitution based on ten arguments, as reported by the Albanian newspaper Panorama.
On the Italian front, the center-left rejoices. Since it was signed, they have never digested the special relationship established by Meloni with Rama, which allows Italy to benefit from the support of a foreign country, which is also not part of the European Union. For Angelo Bonelli (Avs) it is a “slap in the face of Italy”, Davide Farone from Italia Viva says that “Meloni’s commercial is at risk of not being broadcast”, while Pierfrancesco Maiorino (Pd) considers her “a terrible international figure ”. In reality, the suspension of the agreement is a “due act”, as Fabio Rampelli, from the FdI, points out, necessary to examine the resources.
