Luca Casarini-Democratic Party-Church is the triptych at the center of a scandal with a migrant theme. The investigation by the Guardia di Finanza, which is investigating the former leader of Tute Bianche and the G8 Disobedients for aiding illegal immigration and violating the navigation code, has brought to light the dark dynamics behind the management of migrant transport operated by the NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans, of which Casarini is a member. As also detailed in the journalistic report on the program Rete4 Fuori dal Coro – presented by Mario Giordano – and produced by correspondent Delia Mauro, the Mediterranean NGO would have raised 125 thousand euros for transporting the immigrants taken from a Danish ship to Italy. But not only that, because according to research documents published by the weekly Panorama, the Church, through some bishops, also contributed to the NGO’s activity by sending 2 million euros to Casarini. Money obtained from offerings from believers and left in the unstable hands of someone accused of aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
The problem regarding the amounts of money arose when the Financial Police’s interceptions revealed their destination, which was not specifically aimed at safeguarding migrants. “I think we made some noise. If we get the money we made, we can pay salaries and debts. Either we managed to do these things to pay the house rent and the separation situation, or I had to go work in a bar.” Therefore, we read in the documents, “the amounts collected and publicized as destined to save lives at sea would, instead In particular, in the so-called “Mare Jonio case”, there are 6 suspects accused of transshipment of 27 migrants since September 11, 2020. According to the prosecution, this rescue did not take place for humanitarian reasons, but it was a commercial operation, an exchange between the two shipping companies, Maersk and Idra Shipping. Following the rescue, Idri Shipping received a donation of 125 thousand euros.
In the beginning, there was talk of the Democratic Party as the third economic link. What does all this have to do with it? The Fuori dal Coro report highlighted the fact that Casarini could also have counted on the informative support of some Dem exponents. “Our information service works”, confided Casarini in Guardia di Finanza interceptions, where he also mentioned his name by Giuditta Pini , former Democratic Party parliamentarian from 2013 to 2022, author of “a confidential report” useful for conducting his business. Pini, in the report, denied the accusation and has already taken care to notify the legal authorities to proceed with the defamation accusation. But she would not have been the only one to give tips, because there is also another exponent of the Democratic Party, Matteo Orfini, who reiterated to correspondent Delia Mauro, as he already did in the Chamber, the existence of telephone contacts between him and Casarini. It is not clear what use the disobedient ex made of this information, but the money did, because the interceptions spoke quite clearly.
