The Democratic Party is losing its parts. The questionable decision to boycott the primaries to choose the mayoral candidate caused a significant shock in Palazzo Vecchio, the seat of Florentine power. In fact, a new group was born in the City Council, made up of 3 elected representatives, in addition to 12 district councilors. Specifically, they are Leonardo Calistri, Stefano Di Puccio and Massimiliano Piccioli. “We have been complaining for some time that the Democratic Party is closed in on itself, does not dialogue and is intolerant of anyone who is not aligned with the leaders of the party itself. Even on the path that led to the municipal assembly on December 4th, we saw a lack of transparency and dialogue. The desire of one party to pretend that the other does not exist, because it is not aligned and, therefore, is not wanted in the party itself is evident. As members of the Florentine PD, we repeatedly asked for our voice to be heard and respected, but all our requests, including access to management and assembly documents addressed to the municipal secretary, were ignored by local party leaders. We also represent many voters, deputies and citizens who gave us their mandate in 2019, but who today are disoriented by what is happening. In the Democratic Party, not everyone has the same dignity and, in fact, some are given the door. And where people who dare to have different thoughts from those at the top, but very present in the party base, are expelled from one day to the next. As happened in the case of the revocation of the delegations of former councilor Cecilia Del Re. Or because they were not useful for current reasons, even if elected with maximum preferences, as in the case of the revocation of the former councilor’s delegations. councilor Alessandro Martini. We will continue to guarantee majority support for the mandate program, while on new issues that may arise we will evaluate our vote from time to time, always ready for dialogue and discussion”.
The new group, which will be called “Democratic Florence”, will support, in the next elections, the civic list led by Cecilia Del Re. According to palace rumors, the former Mobility councilor would be “very tempted” by the idea of running in the primaries against Stefania Saccardi and, subsequently, presenting himself in coalition with Italia Viva in the June elections. A nightmare scenario for the Democratic Party, which runs the real risk of losing the last strong red.
