Pozzolo, “appropriate measures”. Fratelli d’Italia’s position does not change, Meloni angry

The Fratelli d’Italia deputy, Emanuele Pozzolo, is under investigation by the Biella Public Prosecutor’s Office, on suspicion of aggravated injuries, after the wounding of a 31-year-old young man – with a gunshot – at the New Year’s Eve party where Undersecretary of Justice Andrea Delmastro. The parliamentarian’s inclusion in the register of suspects does not change the line expressed yesterday by Fratelli d’Italia, according to which “appropriate measures” will be taken if irregular or inappropriate behavior appears in the investigators’ investigations. But party sources do not hide their irritation, even from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who may intervene on the matter in the coming days and it is not excluded that she will do so before the conference with the parliamentary press scheduled for January 4th. The hypothesis could be that the party would be suspended.

Furthermore, the opposition calls for a clear intervention from Meloni. “How long – says the head of Justice of the PD, Debora Serracchiani – will President Meloni cover up these behaviors that are completely incompatible with the institutional roles played by these ‘unfortunate’ party colleagues?” For M5S, Meloni should expel Pozzolo from the party and demand his resignation as parliamentarian. The deputy admitted having brought with him, to Rosazza’s New Year’s Eve party, the gun with which the shot was fired that grazed the son-in-law of a Delmastro escort officer, but not having fired the shot. By registering on the suspect register – for a crime for which no complaint is required, which has not yet been filed – it will be possible to carry out ballistic tests on the seized mini-pistol. Stub, a test to detect gunshot residue and explosive particles, was carried out in Pozzolo. The samples taken from the right and left hands, the jacket, fleece sweatshirt and jeans worn by Pozzolo – as stated in the Carabinieri report seen by LaPresse – took place on January 1, at 7:25 am. The deputy did not, therefore, immediately submit to the Draft, which was carried out just 6 hours after the events, including his clothes, which, it is understood, he refused to hand over, invoking parliamentary immunity.

However, Biella city council began the procedure to revoke the license to carry a firearm for personal defense issued to the FdI deputy. Pozzolo, 38 years old, born in Vercelli, lawyer by profession, is in his first experience as a parliamentarian, having joined Fratelli d’Italia after an experience in the League. Married and father of three, he introduces himself on Facebook as ‘Manny’. A staunch gun defender, due to a kind of retaliation law, a post of his from a few years ago is circulating on social media, in which, after a massacre in the United States, he reminded then-president Obama: “I’ve never seen a gun fire by itself.” . «I am stunned, speechless, for me it is an absolutely incredible fact. I couldn’t even imagine something like that”, was the reaction of Francesca Delmastro, sister of the undersecretary and mayor of Rosazza, who attended the party, but explains that she left before the shot. All that remains is to wait.
