Mediaset is bidding to host the televised face-to-face meeting between the Prime Minister and leader of the Brothers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, and the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein. Tg5, a note reads, “offers a special broadcast immediately following the 8pm news or in prime time. All other primetime insights are also available to host any discussions. Mediaset is ready to guarantee an independent, pluralistic and balanced space.” Sky Tg24, Rai and La7 have already offered to host the competition.
«I launched the Meloni challenge on its merits: it doesn’t scare me at all, even if they tried to say it after my refusal to participate in their party because I don’t share the stage with those nostalgic for fascism and Francoism. We will see that the pompous promises of the right will melt like snow in the sun. However, the televised discussion does not replace that in Parliament, they rarely watch it and often trample the opposition.” The secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, stated this in an interview with Repubblica, responding to a question about a television confrontation with the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, which was mentioned again by the latter at the press conference at the end of the year.
