FdI condemns Roman greetings: “Another gaffe by the left”

Conflict over commemoration of the Via Acca Larentia massacre in Rome. There, on January 7, 1978, two right-wing activists were shot dead (a third young man died a few hours later, during clashes with the police). The ambush was claimed by the Armed Forces of Territorial Counterpower, but those responsible were never identified. So the other night, hundreds of protesters gathered to perform the Roman salute. The scene circulates on social media and generates opposition. The Democratic Party presents two questions, to the House and the Senate. The avalanche of statements continues throughout the day. The leader of Italy Viva Matteo Renzi observes: «Meloni gives a signal, saying that these images are wrong». The operation is a bit like that, trying to bring the Prime Minister, the Brothers of Italy and the government to a serious fact, certainly, but certainly not new. The unequivocal reactions come from the center-right. Starting from the secretary of Forza Italia Antonio Tajani: «We are an anti-fascist party. Anyone who engages in such behavior should certainly be condemned by all.”

Still among the Azzurri, Maurizio Gasparri observes: «Decide the condemnation of the Roman greetings, which we talked about in Acca Larentia? Of some young people killed in years of terrorism whose responsibility for the murder was never established and this must be discussed.” Then there is the other aspect, that is, the meaning of the commemorations. A note from the Brothers of Italy noted yesterday: “The left was at the power several times, but only today intends to discover the commemoration of Acca Larentia. Until now, even under the PD governments, it has been decided not to intervene to prevent it.” The vice-president of the Chamber, Fabio Rampelli, member of the Brothers of Italy , also intervenes at this point and explains how things are going: «We started to abandon the nightly demonstration that takes place in the square in front of the old headquarters of the MSI even before the National Alliance was born., Schlein should read before making any more gaffes, precisely because at the time we already had a different nature and very different objectives. Giving Roman greetings does not belong to us.” Therefore, he explains, «two alternative moments are established: on the morning of January 7th an official representation of IDE will place three cushions, in the afternoon in perfect coincidence – the National Youth organizes a torchlight procession in the opposite quadrant of the city, at Villa Glori» . What about those who demonstrate at night? «Loose dogs, people of different origins, have nothing to do with Fratelli d’Italia». The dynamics of things are also explained by Domenico Gramazio, former senator and historic figure on the Roman right. It was he, the day after January 7, 1978, who accompanied the leaders of the Italian Social Movement Giorgio Almirante and Pino Romualdi to the site of the massacre. Today he leads the CIS, an important cultural association: «The “institutional” celebration takes place in the morning, we participate and it is a moment of reflection for our community». At night, on the contrary, “they are people belonging to the extra-parliamentary galaxy who have nothing to do with the Brothers of Italy”.
