Yes, for the blessing of gay couples, but only if everything happens quickly. The paradox is also highlighted by Vittorio Feltri in his daily column published in Il Giornale on January 12th. “I myself struggle to understand the meaning of such a clarification – explains Feltri – Let’s recap: it’s okay to bless gay couples, but only if you do it quickly. note? I would have preferred greater courage and greater decision on the part of the Pope: if the Vatican decides not to exclude gays from the blessing as a couple, then it avoids falling into other forms of discrimination among the faithful based on sexual tendencies. Can you imagine the priests with the stopwatch as they bless gay couples, being careful not to exceed the allowed times? I find this all a bit grotesque and ridiculous. How bizarre it seems to me that the blessing could be denied to certain individuals based on their sexual preferences. In the Gospel I have never read such a distinction. It was a later invention, a form of “racism” formulated by the Church.”
Below, Feltri explains in more detail the reasons that lead him to consider such an attitude discriminatory. “What is a blessing? – asks Feltri – An invocation and request for protection from God exercised by a religious minister over a human being, or, as in this specific case, over a couple. What would be wrong in asking the Lord for protection for two subjects of the same sex who love each other and are together? I don’t believe that God is there with the notepad in his hands to write down whether one of his children is straight or gay, black or white, male or female, and with based on certain criteria is ready to refuse grace, mercy, benevolence and forgiveness. We have turned God into a kind of intransigent and obtuse bureaucrat. But I remain convinced that he cares as much as I do about what people do under the sheets , that is, a dried fig”.
