Solinas, who could run in the European elections, leaves the field for the governor’s seat in Truzzu
A setback by Christian Solinas that leaves the field open to Paolo Truzzu in the race for the presidency of Sardinia, thus avoiding divisions in the center-right and safeguarding the unity of the coalition after the long tug of war between Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni. This should be, barring any surprises, the scenario for the elections that will take place on the island on February 25th for the renewal of the Regional Council and for the President of the Region. On the other hand, the mayor of Cagliari, supported by the via della Scrofa party, will speak today in Quartu Sant’Elena on the occasion of an event in which he is nominated as «candidate for president of the center-right, civic coalition, Sardinian and autonomist» . Tomorrow, then, Truzzu will travel to the north of Sardinia, as a guest at the provincial congress of the Fratelli d’Italia Gallura, scheduled for Olbia. In short, Truzzu’s first public appearances as a candidate in pectore could coincide with a clearer picture of the situation, given that no one in the coalition intends to “give a gift” to the center-left by presenting two candidates.
Solinas could therefore be “diverted” into the European Championship race among the League lists. Especially because in Sardinia it is clear that the impasse does not only concern the dynamics of the island, «the issue is Roman – admits Antonio Moro, president of the Sardinian Action Party of the outgoing governor Solinas before the leadership staged in Cagliari – and it is the of primacy on the Italian right”.
The reference to the confrontation between the League and the FdI is clear, with Forza Italia being an interested “spectator” given the possible involvement in the domain of the regional elections in Basilicata (where Vito Bardi is located) if the unwritten rule that provides for the reappointment of governors would be lost. All without forgetting that the Northern League has already presented a bill in Parliament to increase the term limit for regional presidents from two to three, with the aim of allowing Luca Zaia to continue to govern in Veneto. A hypothesis that would also serve to “compensate” the League for the resignation of one of its candidates in Sardinia – this is the reasoning of the majority sources – but which does not please the Brothers of Italy nor the secretary of Forza Italia, Antonio Tajani, who said “no very favorable to the third term”. «Then the sovereign Parliament will decide, but I think it is right to maintain both mandates. It is a principle of protection of democracy in which I recognize myself”, concluded the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister.
