Confrontation between Gasparri and Bellocchio. The general statements against the right made by the director angered the leader of Forza Italia in the Senate. Gasparri attacked Bellocchio without half measures.
“While every rustle of leaves that comes from the center-right is immediately emphasized, scanned and challenged, from the left you can say anything and everything. I note with sadness the disdainful statements made by the much appreciated director Marco Bellocchio, made on Friday night on La7 TV. Bellocchio’s films always spark discussion and arouse interest. Sometimes they are also difficult to share. But this is part of free debate. Bellocchio, however, launched on television an accusation almost of the existential inferiority of what he briefly defined as “the right”. Also offending Minister Sangiuliano. Because, according to him, the principles of freedom, truth, beauty and essentially culture cannot be compared to Sangiuliano and the world that today governs Italy. Bellocchio’s statement is sad. Because it comes from an important exponent of Italian culture and denotes a contempt and prejudice towards political-cultural parts different from their own, symptomatic of how certain sectors experience this time. They do not accept a democratic principle. They do not recognize pluralism. They offend those who don’t think like them. Whether they are intellectuals, considered non-existent by Bellocchio, or a minister like Sangiuliano, whose ideas may or may not be shared, but whose preparation and cultural quality cannot be denied. Bellocchio basically had an expression that he has no hesitation in defining as racist. If someone had done this with the roles reversed we would already be in an uproar. But we are in a world where the left can do anything. We also watched Schlein say that Italy should not send weapons to Israel. And as secretary of a major party, she doesn’t even know that Italy doesn’t send weapons to Israel. Ignorance and lack of quality may arise on the left. Not on the center right.”
