Zaia’s end-of-life law was annulled: He was dismissed from his post in the Democratic Party

Regional councilor Anna Maria Bigon, whose dissenting vote from the Democratic Party was decisive in rejecting the ‘Zaia law’ on end-of-life, was dismissed from her post as deputy state secretary of the Verona dems.

But the choice does not come from the national or regional secretariat. “We learned about the decision of the provincial secretary of the Verona PD, Franco Bonfante, to dismiss him in a joint note of the Veneto regional secretary, Andrea Martella, and the National Chairman of the Organization of the Democratic Party, Igor Taruffi. The role of the deputy secretary, the regional councilor Bigon, is not the result of national and regional decisions, but a choice made by Bonfante with full autonomy.

“I take full responsibility for this,” said Franco Bonfante, state secretary of the Verona Democratic Party, interviewed by Adnkronos. The choice is mine. We couldn’t act as if nothing had happened”. Bonfante is referring to Bigon’s choice to vote against the end-of-life law sought by the Coscioni association in Veneto. The region became the first Italian region to discuss such a law, at the initiative of governor Luca Zaia.

But this cancellation, for which the national secretariat distinguished itself, threw the democrats into turmoil, with Catholics demanding a debate at the National Secretariat in Nazarene.
