Florence, Del Re proposal to purchase the former Astor hotel

A wound that never healed. Because, almost eight months later, Florence still wonders what happened to Kata, the five-year-old Peruvian girl kidnapped on June 10th. And I never found it again. An issue that has already entered the electoral campaign that will inaugurate the new mayor of the Tuscan capital. Because this abduction is undoubtedly linked to the living conditions in which the girl was forced to live and, consequently, to the Astor hotel, a structure illegally occupied by more than 130 immigrants, with the indifference of the Democratic majority.

Cecilia Del Re, former councilor dismissed by Dario Nardella for disagreeing with the mayor about the tram passage in the center, launched a proposal that will certainly cause discussion. “Our city needs to inaugurate a new direction, made up of virtuous public policies to support the city’s weakest groups. Firenze Democrática was created precisely to give a boost in this direction and we asked the administration to start immediately, with concrete proposals to present to the City Council”.

The new political formation, which will most likely present itself to the vote in June in coalition with Tomaso Montanari and the Five Star Movement, launched the proposal for the purchase of the old Astor hotel by Palazzo Vecchio, “a symbol of the Municipality’s political housing crisis, which could be converted into a public residence for students or, alternatively, intended to accommodate families with minors in conditions of poverty or difficulty”. It is essential for Cecilia Del Re and councilors Massimiliano Piccioli and Leonardo Calistri to modify the “vision of an accessible city , the quality of work, where the municipality must first set an example, and a dignified welcome that also translates into an investment in security in the city”.
