Satnam Singh, Home Ministry’s gesture to dead worker’s widow

A residence permit is about to be issued by the Ministry of Interior, after approval by the competent judicial authority, to the widow of Satnam Singh, the Indian worker who died after an accident at work in Latina (he was abandoned in very serious conditions in front of his house ). The woman is currently illegal.

Meanwhile, the Codacons, through a specific request to the Guardia di Finanza, ask for a seal that attests to legality in terms of safety standards in the workplace, and general checks on companies, especially agricultural ones, that use foreign workers for their business. . “The gangmaster system brings enormous benefits to companies in economic terms, as it exploits the need for foreign workers to find work in Italy, which is why this phenomenon is increasingly difficult to eradicate, despite years of talks and promises from politicians. – explains Codacons -. That is why today we are proposing the adoption of a certificate of legality that certifies respect for laws, safety and workers’ rights by agricultural companies throughout Italy. A certificate that can be issued by the Guardia di Finanza, following checks carried out directly at the work premises and which must lead not only to the closure of companies that do not comply with legal requirements or that exploit and endanger the safety of workers, but also the blocking of the sale of its products in the area. In this sense, Codacons today presents a request to the Presidency of the Council and the General Command of the Guardia di Finanza, asking them to take measures to guarantee legality after yet another tragedy at work, and makes a page on its website available to those who, anonymously, wish to report irregularities at work”.
