New moments of tension in Gaza after the Israeli attack on a school, which according to Tel Aviv was a Hamas command center. Giuseppe Conte, leader of the 5 Star Movement, criticized the Jewish state’s attitude: «Another hundred Palestinian civilians, many children and women, torn apart by Israeli bombs dropped on a school shelter in Gaza gathered for school prayer. Every day a new massacre, even more atrocious, while those who survive the bombs die of hunger, thirst and disease. A systematic extermination carried out by an extremist government that justifies all massacres and theorizes a new “morality” that allows two million Palestinians to die of hunger. Convictions are no longer enough. We call on the Italian government to withdraw our ambassador in Tel Aviv as a sign of firm protest against the incessant war crimes of the Netanyahu government.”
In recent days, the former Prime Minister has already spoken out harshly: “We consider this Italian government to be cowardly because it had the opportunity to speak out in favor of the recognition of the Palestinian State and a ceasefire at the United Nations General Assembly, but it did not do so. The Italian government and the US government are accomplices, they have shown cowardice up until now. Dear Minister Smotrich, dear Prime Minister Netanyahu, dear Israeli government,” Conte said, “it is a shame what you are doing, because what you are doing is truly illegitimate, if not to provide cover and international legitimacy for this war. For ten months you have been carrying out this carnage, we have claimed 40,000 Palestinian victims, the majority of them women and children. You will never do this in our name, in the name of those who fight with a sense of international justice to protect the lives of defenseless Palestinians, of absolutely innocent Palestinians.”
