Being attacked just because you are related to a minister. That’s what happened to Antonella Giuli, sister of minister Alessandro, who ended up in the sights of Sigfrido Ranucci and Report for allegedly being a collaborator of Fratelli d’Italia. The instrumental attack of sinister political propaganda was immediately rejected by the broadcaster, who was also forced to confess that on weekends (contrary to what the broadcast stated) she takes care of her seriously ill 7-year-old son. Everyone immediately rose up against this instrumental attack that does not even respect people’s legitimate privacy.
«Solidarity with Antonella Giuli, excellent professional, victim of the exploitation implemented by Report». So did Noi Moderati’s vice-president in the Chamber of Deputies, Pino Bicchielli. «Antonella Giuli is present every day in the press room of the Chamber of Deputies, at the disposal of each political party with the professionalism that has always distinguished her. It’s time to say enough is enough to this mud machine that puts valid professionals in a negative position and without any motivation, except, perhaps, to favor one political group over another.”
«I know Antonella Giuli and like everyone who knows her, I appreciate her professional ability and commitment. Those who do investigative journalism must distinguish the true from the false and the presumptive and avoid vulgar attacks from the media. An important boundary that in this case was crossed and that speaks of an instrumental and biased use of a broadcast that should inform correctly. I express all my personal closeness to Antonella Giuli.” The statement was made by Senator Fratelli d’Italia, Isabella Rauti, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense.
«As a mother, even before being a member of the Brothers of Italy and the center-right, I cannot help but feel a strong disappointment at the report that the Report will broadcast tonight against Antonella Giuli, who was impressed by her professionalism and forced to make your intimate sphere public to defend yourself from accusations. Italian viewers do not deserve that some militant journalists use public service television broadcasts as an instrument of unlimited political struggle. My solidarity goes to Antonella Giuli.” Fratelli d’Italia senator Domenica Spinelli stated this in a statement.
«Solidarity with Antonella Giuli for the attacks in the Report. Investigative journalism – now degenerated into the obsessive search for scandalous news and the assassination of characters – reaches the grotesque when Ranucci gets the name wrong several times when speaking of »Alessandra«. There is an attempt to attack ministers by beating their families: this is barbaric. Antonella Giuli is a renowned professional with whom I had the opportunity to collaborate in the institutional activity of Montecitorio’s press office.” So is the president of the Chamber’s Culture committee Federico Mollicone, head of Culture and Innovation at FdI.
«How sad when a supposed investigative program has to deal with a mother’s private life and not with what journalism would define as news. The report’s attack on Antonella Giuli is obscene. A professional of indisputable qualities who pays for being a minister’s sister. We are now at the lowest level that information could reach, a level at which an investigation becomes defined as a morbid spying through a keyhole, forcing a mother to have to reveal the most painful aspects because they concern a child. A hug to Antonella, an unquestionably capable press officer, strong in her professional qualities and a wonderful woman and mother, with whom I was lucky enough to work shoulder to shoulder and who gave me the opportunity to appreciate the extraordinary passion that drives her for her profession , available 24 hours a day, despite life’s difficulties.” Thus the senator of the Brothers of Italy, Giorgio Salvitti.
