“Shameful and unacceptable images from Milan and Bologna yesterday. These social centers occupied by the communists must be closed and I will ask Minister Piantedosi to do this today.” These are the words of deputy prime minister and League leader Matte Salvini on the sidelines of a meeting with citizens in Bettona (Perugia).
What happened in Milan and Bologna?
The reference is based on what happened in the last few hours. In Bologna, anti-fascist demonstrators encountered police in riot gear on the Pincio steps near Montagnola park. The regiment wanted to approach the area where the Casapound garrison was located. The situation worsened when a group of protesters with their faces covered headed towards the stairs. The police, who were assigned to prevent access to the square, were contacted. Smoke bombs and fireworks were thrown. Three police officers were injured. Demonstrators at the pro-Palestinian march in Milan insulted Israel and the Jewish people.
Salvini: “I will demand that all occupied left social centers be discovered”
“I will demand an investigation of all illegally occupied left-wing social centers because they are dens of criminals,” Salvini announces. Salvini adds: “In Bologna the police are hunting with sticks, in Milan they are encouraged to hunt Jews, as in the Netherlands, and in a country like Italy.” This is unacceptable in this country. So as a minister, as vice-chairman of the Council, as a parent and as secretary of the Union, I will ask for urgent intervention to close down these criminal dens, which are communist social centres”.
