The candidates discussed the pension model

To explain their proposals regarding pension issues, some presidential candidates attended the FIAP Asofunds 2022 International Congress this Friday in the city of Cartagena.

The event took place in person and was attended by Ingrid Betancourt, Rodolfo Hernández, Sergio Fajardo, Federico Gutiérrez and Enrique Gómez. It is important to clarify that both Gustavo Petro and Luis Pérez were invited; however, they chose not to attend.

Federico Gutierrez

The Team for Colombia presidential candidate gave details about his eventual pension reform. He indicated that one of its goals will be to guarantee an annuity for more than 3 million older adults who were left out of the regime. He also proposes a reduction of the pension premium from 25 to 22 years.

And he added: “We will maintain the system, but it is very important that it has coverage, equality and durability. They are the three axes.”

The presidential candidate was also critical of proposals aimed at transforming the pension system.

“You don’t have to look at the disaster of what they’ve done in Argentina, which represents another candidate. It’s that it’s very easy to take $350 billion from savers and have parties with that money and spend it,” Gutiérrez said in the debate.
