Rutte is annoyed by the expectation of energy bill compensation

Prime Minister Rutte softened expectations to compensate for the higher energy bill. During a debate with the House of Representatives, he said that the cabinet wants to mitigate the consequences of rising energy prices, but that everyone will notice it in their wallets.

“I use the word silent with emphasis,” Rutte said. “It is an illusion that we go out and compensate everyone so that a positive purchasing power image is created at the end of the year.” The company mainly focuses on low- and middle-income groups.

Purchasing power is falling

Today it was announced that purchasing power will decrease by an average of 2.5% this year. Due to the high inflation of recent months, a decrease in purchasing power was already expected. Add to this the sharp rise in energy prices as a result of the war in Ukraine.

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is unprecedented in history, we will all bear the consequences,” Rutte said. Rutte said that previous promises that the cabinet would accept energy compensation before the war and that this no longer applies, no longer applies. “We’ve been living in a different reality for twelve days.”
