Cabinet: more help for beneficiary parents, child removed from home, simply not sent back

The government believes that politicians cannot estimate whether a child will return home. Weerwind: “Whether children can actually go home depends on the situation in the family.” He wants the cases to be re-examined by the juvenile judge.

Affected parents can request help from the “Special Team Home Placement Support”. The support team of 18 advisors has only been active for a few weeks and 45 parents have stepped forward. According to the support team’s report, these parents were initially skeptical but were relieved to receive help in contacting youth services.

In addition to this help, Weerwind promises that all parents are entitled to a free lawyer if they need a lawyer in the legal process to overturn the custody order. The cabinet does not see the point of the House of Representatives’ proposal to give the support team more powers, because it is legally difficult and takes time to organise.

Rutte asks the municipality to give the support team another chance to reach more parents.
