Report on controversial mouth plug deal probably not ready until summer

Minister Conny Helder (Long Care and Sport) wrote on Friday that the Deloitte report on Sywert van Lienden’s mask deal is probably not ready for the summer recess of the House of Representatives. According to him, a session with the involved party, which could last two weeks, will take longer.

Earlier this week, the minister said the report will be ready before the summer break, which starts on July 8. He said this after a conversation with research agency Deloitte.

In the middle of last month, Deloitte wrote to the Ministry of Health that it needed more and better information from the Ministry.

Marcelis Boereboom, general secretary of the ministry, reacted “surprised” in a reply to Deloitte’s letter. He declined most requests for information.

The patience of the room has run out

Van Lienden wrote on Twitter late Friday that he had been asked to waive pre-agreed timelines for the controversial hearing because the draft report had been delayed. According to Van Lienden, this is not to be expected before mid-June, because, according to him, the Ministry of Health submitted the data too late. The talks are said to have also taken place this week.

The patience of the House of Representatives has long run out. Helder also noted that he repeatedly shared the Assembly’s impatience, but that this was a thorough investigation.

The investigation into the mouth mask deal is one of the sub-studies into personal protective equipment that the government bought during the corona crisis.

Van Lienden and his friends won several million

Initially, Deloitte reported its findings immediately. Partly at the urgent request of the House of Representatives, the investigation into the Van Lienden agreement is given priority.

The well-known CDA Van Lienden and his employees, who run a foundation together, were arrested at the beginning of March in connection with the investigation into the controversial face mask case.

According to the Ministry of Public Affairs (OM), receivers who were in violation of the foundation’s statutes would donate part of their earnings to their own companies. Together they could earn several million this way.
