D66 compensates victim for excessive behaviour

D66 has made a correction to the cross-border behavior of party chairman Frans van Drimmelen, who has since resigned. The victim will also receive a “financial compensation”.

The party leadership argues that after investigation by the BING agency, the wrong impression has been created that no infringing behavior has taken place. “This is wrong.”

A lawsuit that arose in 2015 and 2016. The public inquiry said there was “no evidence of abuse of power and sexual harassment”.

But last month de Volkskrant reported that Van Drimmelen was still a secret attachment and had been guilty of bullying, threats and blackmail.

Party leader Victor Everhardt and party leader Sigrid Kaag apologized for the recent handling of the issue.

members meeting

D66 members had a meeting today where they could critically discuss with the party leadership behind closed doors. They are satisfied with this turn of events.

Only the last part of the meeting was public. The open speech that took place today was particularly proud. “This is my party,” said Everhardt. “We dare this, we do this. But oh, there’s still so much to do. And it’s not just in procedures and structures and things like that, but also in culture.”

Kaag agrees that there is still a long way to go, but says the party leadership has learned a lot from the issue. “We will come out stronger than this” received a round of applause from the members.

Mariëtte Hamer also spoke. The former PvdA leader and head of the SER was an independent government commissioner for a month because of excessive sexual behavior and sexual violence.

He said the problem of excessive behavior is bigger than just D66, and that we are all in a “great quest” to ask “how can we reduce this problem”. He says to D66: “You are very, very, very”.

second case

A lawsuit is currently pending with D66: The NRC reports that three former employees have filed a complaint with the Integrity Committee about MEP Samira Rafaela. He is said to have been guilty of “intimidation, abuse of power, bullying and threats”. Rafaela threatens to leave the party.
