Former GroenLinks party leader Mohamed Rabbae (81) passed away

The Moroccan National Council announced on Tuesday that former politician Mohamed Rabbae has died at the age of 81. Together with Ina Brouwer he was the leader of the GroenLinkspartij in 1994. He was a member of the party’s House of Representatives from 1994 to 2002.

In the 2002 elections, Rabbae got a lower place on the candidate list than he wanted. He also failed to get a higher place at the party congress. At the end of 2010 she definitively canceled her GroenLinks membership in order to take a more liberal stance in the public debate.

After his accession to parliament, Rabae became a member of the Leiden city council. He left after two years because of major problems in sheltered employment. They started when she was on sick leave. He later became the head of the Moroccan National Council (LBM).

He worked for the immigrant community of Rabae. As leader of the LBM, the PVV member was strongly opposed to the policy of Geert Wilders. The organization filed a complaint against Wilders after declaring it “less Moroccan” in 2014. Wilders was later found guilty of mass libel.

GroenLinks leader Jesse Claver: “With the death of Mohamed Rabbae, the Netherlands has lost an icon. He was an activist, a politician, a leader. He was a tireless fighter against racism and for equality.” “It is our duty to continue the fight for justice,” he said.
