Kuipers says VWS officials will no longer interfere with UNWTO recommendations

The opinions of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) are no longer communicated to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport before they are made public. Minister Kuipers made the commitment when discussing reports that ministers had changed or influenced recommendations during the corona pandemic.

Kuipers acknowledged that officials had only asked clarifying questions and offered text to UNWTO experts, but “offer to have clues”.

That is why OMT wants its recommendations to stop going to the ministry before they are published. “UNWTO handles its own texts,” said the minister.

Mouth caps in long-term care

The debate was prompted by opposition parties, who believed that VWS employees interfered with recommendations on the use of face masks, for example in long-term care. UNWTO has asked to wear these face masks in nursing homes, but VWS adds that this is a recommendation. This has indeed happened, according to documents requested and further examined by news timeI
