Presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez received the support of the Community Action Boards on Tuesday for his push to reach the House of Nariño.
During the event, the candidate was accompanied by the President of the National Confederation of Community Action, Ceferino Mosquera.
Mosquera assured that the support of community members is due to the fact that “he is the only candidate who is concerned so that community action remains what it is.”
“I think you should be with someone who wants to be with you,” Mosquera said.
He added that the country needs greater participation from the “communities” through agricultural opportunities so that farmers remain in rural areas and the youth of the community have access to higher education.
Gutiérrez, for his part, affirmed that the community’s action committees must “build democracy from the neighborhoods and villages”, and emphasized his proposal for investment in the Colombian countryside to go from 1 billion to 3 billion pesos annually.
“This is not only that the big companies take the profits, it is also that the people living in the areas are involved in the works to create employment in the villages and ensure sustainability,” the candidate said.
He explained that the joint work will also promote infrastructure projects, tertiary roads or so-called “rural roads”, footprinting plates and community projects, among other things.
He cited as an example the experiences that are advancing in departments such as Cundinamarca and Meta, where the Community Action Boards have made tertiary avenues for efficient investments that have resulted in a reduction of the costs of the works by up to 25%.
“These are well-done works, made by the community that involves the social fabric,” he said.
He said these organizations are administrative companies of a public nature, of popular elections that are located in municipalities, districts and in districts or places of municipalities.
