Cabinet presents plan for new nuclear power plants next week

Next week, the cabinet will announce its plans for the development of two nuclear power plants. The development plans have already been announced in the coalition agreement and EUR 5 billion has been earmarked for the first phases.

“We are completely dependent on wind, sun and other sustainable energy sources,” says Jetten, Minister of Climate. “But you also want a stable energy source without CO2 in this energy mix. The two new nuclear power plants are a good addition to all sustainable technologies.”

It will take years for these facilities to be operational and market players will have to be recruited to build and operate them. Jetten: “The government must therefore have had a very clear policy for decades on how this can be done safely.”
