Marcelo swims in Copacabana and says there are never any problems in Brazil

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, swam this Saturday and relaxed on the sandy beach of Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro, saying that “in Brazil there are never any problems”.

The presence of the Portuguese head of state in Copacabana, on a winter morning in Brazil, surprised the people who were on that part of the beach. Some approached and asked for photos.

“I wish Brazil had a president like that,” said Andreia, a carioca married to a Portuguese, who then went to call her husband, Vítor, a native of Porto, to take a ‘selfie’ with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. .

The President of the Republic, along with the Minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva, dived into the waters of Copacabana, where they swam for about 15 minutes, accompanied by two guards.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa left the sea, walked for a while and continued talking to two young women lying on the sand.

A street vendor who watched the scene from a distance exclaimed, “Who doesn’t love Copacabana, this beautiful, beautiful, famous beach that even the president is here?”

If he was Brazil’s president, he added, “This would be surrounded by security and you couldn’t be here.”

On the coast, in his swimsuit, the head of state called his diving buddy, the culture minister, “an expert, a great surfer”. Pedro Adão e Silva stated that he had “better days”.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa turned to the journalists and asked: “They don’t want to dive, do they? So they stay outside. Filming from the inside was fantastic. They had to bring equipment for that.”

The culture minister, who oversees the media, warned: “The public service was expensive.”

On this occasion, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was once again asked about “the problem” that arose during this trip: the eventual cancellation by the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, of the invitation he had made to him for a meeting followed by lunch in Brasília on Monday, funfair.

“But what problem? I just don’t see any problems. In Brazil there are never problems, I learned that. My grandfather came here at the end of the 19th century. I learned that in Brazil what looks like a problem is not a problem “It’s just,” the president replied.

Pedro Adão e Silva noted that the sea was “good for careers”.

When asked if he is prepared for all waves, the president of the republic replied: “I don’t see any waves. I don’t see any bigger than these”.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa arrived this morning in Rio de Janeiro for a commemoration session of the air crossing of the South Atlantic one hundred years ago by Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho, in the port area in the center of the city.

After that, a reception for the Portuguese community at the Portuguese Consulate General in Botafogo is on the program.

Even today, he travels from Rio to São Paulo, where he will be the official opening of the 26th International Book Biennale, which has Portugal as its honored country in this edition.
