Humberto de la Calle and Daniel Carvalho were expelled from Verde Oxígeno

A new chapter opened this Saturday in the political dispute between Humberto de la Calle, Daniel Carvalho and Íngrid Betancourt.

After 5 hours of deliberation in the Extraordinary Assembly of the Oxygen Green Party (PVO), which had been called to determine the community’s position against the Petro government, it was unanimously decided to expel Carvalho and De la Calle from the party.

“As proposed by the coordinator of the party in the Caribbean, the political expulsion of the two elected congressmen, Humberto de la Calle and Daniel Carvalho, because of their incompatibility with the principles of this community, was considered by the Assembly. During the Assembly, both expressed their opposition to the decisions and actions of the PVO and expressed their interest in being released now. Subsequently, the members of the assembly voted unanimously for the departure of the two elected congressmen,” according to the party guidelines.

The decision was rejected by the parliamentarians, who are also the only congressmen elected from that party because they were part of the Verde-Centro Esperanza coalition.

“We were expelled from the Oxygen Green Party by a meeting plagued by violations of the law and the party’s own statutes. A decision that we do not consider legitimate. It was intended to pass anti-democratic statutes and impose decisions on congressmen,” Carvalho said.

He added: “De la Calle and I will remain steadfast in our defense and, most importantly, we will begin a full legislative agenda in Congress on July 20.”

The community indicated that another decision was the declaration of opposition to the new government of Gustavo Petro by majority decision of the militants.

It is important to note that for a few months the congressmen started a political battle with the leader of the party, Íngrid Betancourt. Humberto de la Calle’s latest claim was the reform of the statutes, which was, among other things, delayed by 3 months.
