Leefbaar Zeewolde and ChristenUnie, two opponents of the arrival of the controversial data center in the municipality of Flevoland, will jointly take 14 of the 19 seats after the municipal elections. This is evident from the data that the municipality has provided to the election service. FATHERI
Liveable Zeewolde received 45.5% of the votes, a doubling of the number of seats from 5 to 10. The ChristenUnie received 22.3% of the votes and thus obtained 4 seats on the council.
In Zeewolde, a discussion arises about the data center project of Facebook’s parent company Meta. The center is controversial, partly because of doubts about its sustainability and social benefits.
In December it was announced that the then majority of the city council was in favor of the arrival of the center. Eleven of the 19 councilors voted for a zoning change for the planned site, the next step toward building the data center.
ChristenUnie and Leefbaar Zeewolde were vehement opponents of the plan. Together, these parties had “only” 8 seats at the time, but now 14, with a large majority.
