Farewell to the Draghi government, the last request: postpone the ascent to Colle until this morning

The only concession Draghi made yesterday was not to resign immediately after the Senate vote. He was asked to wait at least today because the stock markets were already down and there would be a disastrous closing. The prime minister accepted, this morning he will go to the Chamber to announce his resignation and then he will go up to the Quirinale. That Sergio Mattarella accepts, however, will most likely ask the former president of the ECB to remain in office to take care of current affairs. At least until the next executive takes office, which could arrive in November if, it seems, we go to vote on October 2nd.

The President of the Republic, by the way, may dissolve the Chambers in the coming days after having heard, as usual, the presidents of the two branches of Parliament. An end to the legislature that no one imagined would come like this, even though in the Quirinale it was known that the path to continue the government was very narrow. When Mario Draghi ascended from Mattarella last Thursday, the President of the Republic heard his reasoning about the fact that the government could no longer continue, but asked him to at least go to the Chambers to explain to the country what was happening. .

Otherwise, few would have understood his decision. And so Draghi did, however, reiterating his clear closure to any kind of political mediation: let me carry out the reforms that the government is planning, he explained speaking to the senators, without mounting street protests, otherwise we will go to the vote. And so it was.

But the concern of Europe and the markets now is precisely what will happen until the next executive is in office. Or rather, what will not happen. Because the money from the NRP is at stake, which the EU will give to Italy only if the objectives set out in the Plan are achieved. And not everyone was hit at the moment. And a government that functions only for ordinary administration will not be able to execute them.

So there is a possibility that Europe could block these funds. But it is not the only problem that opens with this sudden stop of the legislature. At stake is also the decree worth around 13 billion with help for families to face the crisis and measures to reduce the cost of accounts for the third quarter. And that too could remain in the middle of the ford.
