Gas, Sergio Mattarella’s explosion over the price ceiling: “Urgent measure, there is no more resistance in the EU”

Sergio Mattarella raises his voice about the energy crisis that has hit Italy and all of Europe. The President of the Republic, in a joint press conference with Stevo Pendarovsk, President of the Republic of North Macedonia, sent a message to EU member countries on the day of the extraordinary Energy Council: “Italy has already proposed a four-month price limit to the EU of gas, which some other countries are beginning to understand is necessary. If it had been adopted when Italy proposed it four months ago, we would have avoided some of the consequences of higher energy prices. It is very urgent to move forward overcoming the last resistance of the Union because it means protecting families and companies from political and financial speculation”.

Speaking at the end of the meeting was the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson: “We have to face the high price of electricity but without jeopardizing the energy market and the supply that we guarantee for this winter, for example by putting a ceiling on the price But nothing is excluded and the debate is ongoing.” Even the Minister of Energy of the Czech Republic (current president of the EU), Jozef Sikela, expressed himself on the matter: “The gas price ceiling is the most delicate from the point of view of the market. And the States, together with the Commission, need some time to agree on the modalities of the maximum prices to be adopted”.
