In the Argentine province of Mendoza (west), a bus carrying more than thirty Boca Juniors fans died on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and several injured, judicial sources report.
“So far we have confirmed a dead female person and we are starting to work to see if we have more fatalities,” Óscar Sívori, the prosecutor responsible for the case, said in statements to Channel 9 Televida.
The accident happened around noon on Route 7, specifically in the municipality of San Martín, about 40 kilometers east of the provincial capital.
According to the public prosecutor, the cause of the accident would have been the “flapping of a tire”.
The club ‘Xeneize’, which will face Quilmes this Wednesday at the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium in Mendoza for the quarter-finals of the Argentine Cup, has made a statement to deplore this ‘tragic accident’.
“Club Atlético Boca Juniors regrets the tragic accident of Xeneizes fans who traveled to Mendoza to enjoy tonight’s match for the Copa Argentina and make themselves available to their families and friends,” the entity said.
