We’ve seen all sorts of accidents on a football field, the result of strong contrasts with opponents or unnatural movements of the ankles or knees. Broken ligaments, fractured tibias, but also tragic collapses from a cardiac arrest like Eriksen’s. Scenes always limited to the green rectangle, while something similar to what happened last Saturday in Germany during a regionalleague (the fourth German series) between Chemnitzer AND Chemie Leipzig.

The 24-year-old forward was among the guests Denis Japel, who during the first half was the protagonist of a frightening injury, which forced him to be hospitalized. At 26′ of the game, the player flew to the left wing, chasing a very long ball in an attempt to prevent it from going out to the baseline. The operation was successful, also due to the slippery terrain due to rain: Japel threw the ball in a lateral foul, but ended up going over the baseline, unable to stop the run.

Slipping without grabbing his shoes on the asphalt, the Chemie Leipzig football player pressed with unprecedented violence against the wall that was just above the baseline. A devastating impact, which knocked Japel out of action, sending him crashing to the ground. Treatment was immediate, with a partner who first placed him on his side to prevent the tongue from falling back and occluding the pharynx.

Fortunately, despite being stunned, the 24-year-old forward managed to get up and leave the pitch on his own two feet, then he was transported to hospital for investigation. The tests he underwent gave negative results and he was discharged the next day, but he will have to be stopped for a while as a precaution, as his club communicated on Twitter: “Denis is fine considering the circumstances, but will rest until the middle of next week. We wish you a speedy recovery: come back soon, Denis!“.

Without the scare for his player, the weekend was positive for Chemie Leipzig, who won the away match in Chemnitz thanks to Dannis Mast’s 79th-minute goal. With these three points, the Saxon team rose in the rankings in the Regionalliga Nordost: after 7 days they are in sixth place with 13 points, 5 points behind the leader of the classification, the Berliner AK 07.
