Paulo Autuori becomes Atlético Nacional’s new coach

The quarterback joins a team that, despite having sacked its previous coach for poor performance, is in sixth place with 24 points, four behind leader Millonarios, and close to qualifying for the semi-finals.

One of his main challenges this semester is fighting for the league title and a good Libertadores Cup in 2023, to which the team of Medellin is already classified as the current champion of Colombian football.

In the first phase of National Athletic, the Brazilian arrived at the club in November 2018 accompanied by his assistant Alexandre Mendonca attracted by an “interesting project”, involving the lower divisions, and with the intention of following the signing of the Argentine Hernan Barcos and the Uruguayan Paul Cepelini.

In the six months his time in the ‘purslane’ lasted led 29 parties, with a record of ten wins, ten draws and nine losses, including two eliminations in the early stages of the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana.

Autuori, who has directed in countries such as Portugal, Peru, Japan and Qatar, returns to Colombia buoyed by an extensive career, noting the 1997 Libertadores titles with Cruzeiro and 2005 with Sao Paulo, a club with which he also won the World Cup for clubs in the same year.
