Xabi Alonso has been confirmed as Bayer Leverkusen’s new coach

Xabi Alonso will be Bayer Leverkusen’s new coach until June 30, 2024, replacing Gerardo Seoane, with whom the German club has canceled the contract that linked the parties.

Bayer has also thanked Gerardo Seoane through sports director Simon Rolfes for the “good work” he has done in “the past year and a half, especially with qualifying for the Champions League”.

As a player, Xabi Alonso, who played 114 games for the senior team, winning the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championships; and with its clubs two European Champions Leagues (with Liverpool and Real Madrid), two European Super Cups (Liverpool, Real Madrid), one Spanish League, one Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup, two Bundesligas, one German Cup and one German Super Cup, and an England Cup and an English League Cup.

Xabi Alonso, in statements from Bayer Leverkusen, was enthusiastic about his new phase as a coach: “I know Leverkusen from my time in Germany as an excellent club. Bayer 04 has always had great players and I see a lot of quality in the current team.”

“In my discussions with the club it quickly became clear that despite the difficult situation, ambitious goals are still being pursued. I am very excited about this task and I am sure that we can handle this task,” said Xabi Alonso.
